Republican Stupidity Watch: Food Safety Edition

Don’t bother reading this unless you eat food. 

The head of the Food and Drug Administration’s food safety division just resigned. He said that the Trump/Musk firings in his division and the RFK, Jr. threats to dissolve it made his work impossible. His work, and that of the fired FDA employees isn’t important unless you eat food. 

Their work includes inspections of food and infant formula processing facilities. And investigation of outbreaks of food borne illnesses. Like the February 12 warning about potential botulism in a specific brand of bamboo shoots. Or the February 10 warning about potential botulism in canned tuna sold at Trader Joe’s.   

Nothing important. 

It’s far more important to save a few bucks by firing 89 food safety employees. And the other 600+ FDA employees, whose jobs were probably equally unimportant. 

Republicans in the House and Senate continue to uncritically support the Trump/Musk dismantling of government. They own the unfolding disaster that is the Trump/Musk administration.
