Demonstrations everywhere

Last week, the demonstration was on the ice of Lake Minnetonka, targeting UnitedHealth CEO Stephen Hemsley, and meeting with vehement objections from a neighbor who insisted that demonstrating outside someone’s home is just wrong, especially because “it’s f#%&ing Christmas!” The health care protests, with the support of Physicians for a National Health Program continue with bannering over area freeways.

Today, two groups will protest outside the Governor’s mansion, both targeting T-Paw’s cuts to General Assistance Medical Care (GAMC). Pawlenty has ordered an end to the program, which serves 30,000 people at the very lowest income level, as part of his budget balancing strategy. According to AP:

The Save GAMC Coalition protesters will read the names of people now covered by the program.

Meanwhile, the Welfare Rights Committee is depicting Pawlenty as Scrooge before he undergoes a change of heart. The demonstration will involve the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future.

One response to “Demonstrations everywhere

  1. In my country people would close main streets to protest. The govt would bring riot police to clear the streets. Some groups have started the whole “lets go to his house instead” move. I think if youre an elected official having people protest outside your home is like being a celebrity and having paparazzi outside your home. A fact of life. Sorry about the neighboors tho. But if their biggest complaint is having their xmas spoilt then they are trully disconected from reality. Thanks for the post happy xmas!
